The timeline for a long term project at Tecumseh Vista Academy just got a lot shorter thanks to the Aviva Community Fund. The effort of the TVA School Council encouraging the community to get behind their idea and vote for their Pathway to Progress project paid off in a $100 thousand Grand Prize in this year's national Aviva competition.
School Council has been pursuing the Pathway to Progress project for a few years but it's an expensive enterprise. The plan is to have a paved walking path around the 30 acre school property that connects the school to other parts of the community. Garden plots are also part of the concept along with trees, solar-powered lighting and wireless access. In the nationwide on-line voting, the TVA idea received the most votes overall.
The school has enlisted a number of community partners: Unconquered Sun, the Essex Region Conservation Authority (ERCA), the Town of Tecumseh, Extendicare Tecumseh and the Downtown Mission; which will all benefit from and contribute to the project.
A large assembly was held in the gym to celebrate the donation.
