Prior to the 2017-18 school year more than 70 GECDSB schools shared 2,000 Migs of broadband to power their internet usage. Thanks to the Ministry of Education's Broadband Modernization Project (BMP), students and staff can now access 1,000 Migs in every school.
The minimum standard set under the guidelines of the project was one Mig per student, however the GECDSB negotiated an awesome price to increase that to a level that exceeds that benchmark, in many cases, twice as much or more.
Improved broadband allows more and better access to internet resources and streaming which will enhance learning in classrooms as well as for individual students. The BMP has also enabled the Board to improve security with more and better firewalls and it has led to a more resilient network.
