For the 2017-18 school year, the Ministry of Education invested an additional $20 million through the Rural and Northern Education Fund (RNEF) as an enhancement to the Grants for Student Needs (GSN). The Greater Essex County District School Board received $128,264 to improve education in our rural schools. These funds were allocated to improve programming in the following areas:
A total of $3,430 was allocated to enhance library resources at Gore Hill Public School.
French immersion resources
A total of $15,105 was allocated to enhance French immersion resources at Gore Hill Public School.
A total of $13,500 was allocated to support arts education at Centennial Central Public School, Essex Public School, Gore Hill Public School, Harrow Public School and Mount Carmel-Blytheswood Public School.
English classroom resources
The remaining $96,229 was allocated to replace and add additional write trait kits for grades 1 through 8, Zorbit's Math for the Primary Divisions and Character Education books at Belle River Public School, Centennial Central Public School, Colchester North Public School, East Mersea Public School, Essex Public School, Gore Hill Public School, Gosfield North Public School, Harrow Public School, Jack Miner Public School, Lakeshore Discovery Public School, Malden Central Public School, Mount Carmel-Blytheswood Public School and Pelee Island Public School.
