We are contending with an unprecedented social, medical and
educational emergency and I have incredible appreciation for the efforts of
everyone – our staff, our students and their families – to keep each other
safe, healthy and learning.
There is no experience we can rely on that would have
prepared us for the ordered school closures as a result of the COVID-19
pandemic. However, we have counted on the incredible depth and judgement of our
dedicated professionals to problem solve and plan. Our response has evolved and
expanded with each passing week as we try and provide the best programs and
resources to fulfill our obligations. This has meant some trial and error, but
we are all learning as we go and we have achieved considerable success.
This crisis has revealed great ingenuity, capability and
character throughout our GECDSB community. We have new attitudes and
perspectives on learning and increased awareness of our responsibilities to one

emergency. I anticipate that being well into the summer break and the next
