Layla Bakaa is a Grade 12 student at Leamington District Secondary School. Since Grade 9, Layla has been a model of leadership within her school and the greater-Leamington community.
Layla believes that the power of student voice should never be underestimated. In her roles as a member of the Minister's Student Advisory Council, student researcher for the Ministry of Education, Deputy Prime Minister at LDSS and a member of Parent Council, she continuously strives to utilize her platforms to advocate on behalf of students.
Layla has been involved in various projects including coding an app to support mental health, initiating an ambassador program to assist new refugees with their transition to Canada and using her role as Environment Community Liaison to advocate for environmental sustainability.
Layla is excited to collaborate with the Board of Trustees and is looking forward to promoting student voice.
