Systems Engineer​

The Greater Essex County District School Board invites applications from qualified applicants for the, unionized (CUPE 1348), position of full-time, permanent, Systems Engineer.

The Systems Engineer position is responsible for supporting core infrastructure systems in a stable, efficient, and optimized manner to maximize learning opportunities for students. Specific tasks include assisting with design, installing, configuring, testing, and maintaining enterprise infrastructure systems. The position will assist in developing process to ensure the board gains maximum benefit from supported technologies. The System Engineer will also work as a help desk resource collaborating with all teams to resolve issues.​

Duties: 

  • Participates in proof of concepts to assist in defining technology direction and enabling business strategy.
  • Maintains the operations of all virtual, web, and client systems to ensure availability
  • Communicates and validates program architecture with infrastructure team, and other ITS teams.
  • Defines data retention, backup, and recovery methods and plans.
  • Follows enterprise standards to ensure compatibility and integration of multi-vendor platforms.
  • Responsible for impact analysis and design modifications to existing systems to support new solutions.
  • Maintain a common documentation library of standardized procedures and configurations
  • Provide 2nd tier support for incidents and problems in designated areas of expertise.
  • Communicate and collaborate with ITS & other board staff.         
  • Implement life-cycle planning for all in-scope infrastructure components  
  • Ensure regular health checks of all "major" infrastructure components are performed            
  • Troubleshoots and resolves any IT service issues related to operating systems and servers
  • Supports the school support technicians on solving common systems-related problems
  • Leverages optimization techniques to maximize the efficiency of all computer systems 

    Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3-year community college diploma in Information Technology field and minimum 5 year demonstrated experience with installing and maintaining servers and enterprise storage, including related software and hardware.
  • Must have valid MCSE: Core Infrastructure or VMware Certified Professional certification 
  • Experience with installing, configuring, maintaining and troubleshooting Microsoft Servers including but not limited to Windows Servers, Exchange, SQL Server.
  • Experience with installing, configuring, maintaining and troubleshooting virtual environments (VMWare / Hyper-V).
  • Experience with installing, configuring, maintaining and troubleshooting Active Directory, including, but not limited to, user / group management, permissions, OU structure, Group Policy Objects, sites, trusts and multiple domains / forests.
  • Experience with administrating, supporting, integrating, troubleshooting and using Microsoft Office on premise and cloud productivity applications including but not limited to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, SharePoint, and Office 365 applications.
  • Experience with cloud computing preferred (AWS, Azure).
  • Perform troubleshooting and diagnostic service restoration on all components within our infrastructure, including but not limited to physical servers, virtual servers, server appliances, desktop/laptop computers, email, mobile phones, printers, PC's, VPN, network troubleshooting, DNS, and DHCP.
  • Experience with utilizing backup software for backups, restores, and disaster recovery.
  • Experience with installing, configuring, and maintaining spam filter, proxy appliances and firewalls.
  • Works well under pressure and in stressful situations. Conducts him/herself professionally, even with difficult clients and in stressful situations

Language Assessor​

The Greater Essex County District School Board invites applications from qualified applicants for the, unionized (O.S.S.T.F.-L.E.S.E.), position of full-time, permanent, Language Assessor.

Nature & Scope of Position:

Under the direction of the Social and Community Services Coordinator, the Language Assessor is responsible for the following:

  • Determine client's Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) through application of the most appropriate Canadian Language Benchmarks Assessment (CLBA) tool, Canadian Language Benchmarks Literacy Assessment (CLBLA), Canadian Language Benchmarks Placement Test (CLBPT), Enhanced Language Training Placement Assessment (ELTPLA 6-10), Canadian Language Benchmarks Literacy Placement Tool (LPT) and Workplace Language Assessment (WLA).
  • Review CLB assessment results, provide client with explanation of results, and print report for client.
  • Input necessary assessment data into CLARS database. 
  • Navigate the CLARS database to provide client with information on available language classes at federally or provincially funded Language Training Providers.
  • Conduct initial assessments to confirm client eligibility. Confirm the client's main goal is language training and check if client has had previous language assessment and the timeframe.
  • Identify special needs (i.e. visual impaired) as well as the need for additional settlement services (i.e. daycare).
  • Refer client to class or waitlist and provide client with information about next steps.
  • Establish a good understanding of all LPT's delivery model of language training, up to date information on courses, schedules, training sites as well as all related services offered such as child care, wheelchair accessibility and services for special needs groups.
  • Assume other duties/responsibilities related to client/program needs as determined by the Social and Community Services Coordinator.​

Qualifications

  • A university degree in a related discipline such as Language or Education.
  • T.E.S.L. Ontario Accreditation.
  • Experience in English as a Second Language (E.S.L.) instruction or related field.
  • Must have reliable transportation and possess an Ontario Driver's License.
  • Travel within Windsor-Essex County and Chatham, Ontario is required to provide assessment services.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. 
  • Ability to learn new computer programs/software and proficiency in internet navigation.
  • Proficiency in French and/or second language is an asset.

CASUAL CUSTODIAN

OCCASIONAL CLERICAL WORKER

TEMPORARY SUPPORT STAFF

TEMPORARY INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY TECHNICIAN

 

All successful applicants will be required to be available for day-to-day casual replacement and long-term assignments at various locations throughout Essex County and the City of Windsor.

QUALIFICATIONS:                   

  • Successful completion of a Computer/Information Technology program at an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of 3 years work-related experience, of which 1-2 years is in network, software, and troubleshooting, and resolution specific in PC platform.
  • Experience in Mac platform is considered an asset.
  • Good communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to work independently as well as participate as a team member.
  • A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle for travel throughout Essex County is necessary.

DUTIES:
  • Installation and upgrades of various hardware, software and operating system components for the desktop workstations, servers and peripherals.
  • Troubleshooting and maintenance of local area networks.
  • Performance of related administrative tasks, such as daily updating of the call log.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.
