Social Worker / Attendance Counsellor - Temporary​

The Greater Essex County District School Board invites applications for the position of Social Worker/Attendance Counsellor – Temporary to start September 2019 and has an expected end date of June 26, 2020.

​Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of a Master Social Work Degree program from an accredited university.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in the role of Social Worker in a child welfare, educational, medical/psychiatric or other related setting.
  • Superior and demonstrated organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A thorough understanding of all relevant legislation and standards of practice.
  • A member in good standing with O.C.S.W.S.S.W.
 ​Duties:

The successful applicant will work under the direction of the Supervisor of Social Work/Attendance Counselling Services. 

 Specific responsibilities include:
  • Assessment and counselling of individual students.
  • Providing consultation services to school staff members, special education staff, parents/guardians and outside agencies on a wide variety of topics concerning the social/emotional well-being of all children/youth.
  • Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Partnering with school administrators to address compulsory school attendance, pupil absenteeism and related issues.
  • School presentations related to the social development of students.
  • Conduct threat-risk assessments and be involved in the development of behaviour and safety plans.
  • Respond to crisis situations on an individual or group basis.
  • Other duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor of Social Work/Attendance Counselling Services, and Superintendent of Education.

Coordinator – Capital Projects

The Greater Essex County District School Board invites applications from interested, qualified individuals for the non-bargaining, full time, position of Coordinator – Capital Projects.  This non-bargaining position reports directly to the Manager – Facility Services. The position is expected to begin as soon as possible.                             

Nature & Scope of Position:

Under the general direction of the Manager of Facility Services, the Coordinator – Capital Projects provides strategic direction and leadership for the planning, implementation, management and budget for multi-location capital construction, school renewal and energy management programs.  The ideal candidate is a natural problem-solver who strategically leads at a high level.  Responsibilities include the following:

  • Lead a multi-disciplinary team of staff including Construction Administrator(s), Building Systems Officer and Energy/Environmental Officer.
  • Monitor, record and analyze the condition of Board buildings, grounds and assets.
  • Determine priorities for the enhancement, repair and modification of building facilities and equipment based on end-of-life, legislation or program changes.
  • Develop project scope for consultants and contractors, including assistance in the preparation of contract specifications, tenders and procurement documents.
  • Manage new school design and construction process including stakeholder input and Ministry of Education/Board approval and reporting requirements.
  • Manage staff who act as the Board representative throughout all stages of capital projects and new school construction including design, input from appropriate stakeholders and project management.
  • Manage capital projects, with the assistance of staff, to ensure project budgets, schedules and scope are being met and that stakeholders are informed of scope and project timelines.
  • Help ensure Board compliance with building codes, fire codes, accessibility legislation, health and safety legislation as it pertains to capital projects, Ministry of Labour regulations and other related legislation, regulations, codes and statutory requirements.
  • Manage school facility asset data in VFA software and Ministry reporting as it relates to the School Facility Inventory System.
  • Manage the Board's energy conservation initiatives, through the Energy/Environmental Officer and Building Systems Officer, including utility budgets, EcoSchools Environmental Stewardship Program, annual energy consumption reporting and the Board's 5-Year Energy Consumption Demand Management Plan.
  • Manage compliance, through the Energy/Environmental Officer, with the Safe Drinking Water Legislation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A university degree or a college diploma from a recognized institution in the field of architecture, engineering or a related discipline.
  • Minimum five (5) years progressive experience in the field of architecture, engineering technology, building construction, planning, project management or construction.
  • Proven leadership skills with particular relevant experience with school facility issues and energy management.
  • Proven ability to provide leadership to multi-disciplinary groups including school communities, school administrators, senior staff, consultants, contractors and others as required for project/program delivery.
  • Proven ability to develop and direct programs and budgets.
  • Strong negotiation, conflict resolution, analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of building construction and facility infrastructure as well as familiarity with the building, electrical and fire codes, accessibility standards, energy conservation.
  • Thorough knowledge of consultant and construction contracts, public sector tendering procedures and policies.
  • Knowledge of energy management programs and strategies through the reduction of energy use.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in dealing effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent time management, problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, Powerpoint), AutoCAD with the ability to learn new and specialized software and web based applications.
  • Professional designation is considered an asset.
  • Valid Ontario Driver's License and access to a motor vehicle to travel within the jurisdiction.
  • Red Seal Ticket is an asset.

CASUAL CUSTODIAN

TEMPORARY SUPPORT STAFF

TEMPORARY INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY TECHNICIAN

 

All successful applicants will be required to be available for day-to-day casual replacement and long-term assignments at various locations throughout Essex County and the City of Windsor.

QUALIFICATIONS:                   

  • Successful completion of a Computer/Information Technology program at an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of 3 years work-related experience, of which 1-2 years is in network, software, and troubleshooting, and resolution specific in PC platform.
  • Experience in Mac platform is considered an asset.
  • Good communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to work independently as well as participate as a team member.
  • A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle for travel throughout Essex County is necessary.
     

    DUTIES:
  • Installation and upgrades of various hardware, software and operating system components for the desktop workstations, servers and peripherals.
  • Troubleshooting and maintenance of local area networks.
  • Performance of related administrative tasks, such as daily updating of the call log.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.
