FOR NON-TEACHING STAFF:

Board Planner

The Greater Essex County District School Board invites applications from interested, qualified individuals for the non-bargaining, full time, position Board Planner within the Administration Building.  This non-bargaining position reports directly to Superintendent of Business and the Superintendent of Education responsible for School Development and Design.  The position is expected to begin as soon as possible.                             

Nature & Scope of Position:

Under the general direction of the Superintendent of Business and the Superintendent of Education responsible for School Development and Design the Board Planner would be responsible for:

  • Specific and ongoing projects related to educational facilities planning
  • Developing and coordinating various studies and reports for the Board and Committees on all aspects of the planning function as it relates to existing and future schools
  • Collecting, producing, maintaining and analyzing planning and development related data and information to establish student enrolment projections by school attendance district
  • Working closely with the Database Administrator to provide local knowledge for Baragar enrolment projection software.
  • Leading community and municipal consultation processes related to school accommodation, boundary reviews and partnerships
  • Preparing information required to update the Annual Accommodation and Capital Plan
  • Preparing business cases, as required
  • Providing recommendations to Senior Administration for acquisition and siting of permanent and temporary accommodation.
  • Working closely with Facility Services Staff in planning for new accommodation construction, including site selection process and rezoning applications, if required
  • Coordinating planning approvals for new or surplus school sites
  • Liaison with the municipalities, the local development industry and other local partners for the provision of appropriate student accommodation
  • Collection and projection of data required to update the Board's Education Development Charges and preparation of related reports
  • Providing assistance with the process related to sale of Board surplus property
  • Leases
  • Providing municipal planning support through review and response to planning notices, identifying school board needs in the school planning process
  • Initiating and coordinating a broad range of administrative and technical activities including assisting in the implementation of Board decisions
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Urban Planning, Geography or Urban Studies; and a minimum 3 years of experience in education, municipal or community facilities planning
  • Interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills to provide, clarify and exchange information to community groups and Board personnel
  • Ability to use tact, diplomacy and discretion when communicating information to Board personnel, community organizations/groups, parents and the public
  • Excellent problem-solving, conflict resolution, negotiation, analytical and evaluative skills
  • Excellent leadership, supervisory, interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • Project management, organization and time management skills to prioritize work, manage multiple priorities, and concurrent demands, lead project studies and meet established timelines
  • Knowledge of municipal planning processes and relevant sections of The Planning Act and Education Act, regulations and Ministry policies and procedures.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Experience with electronic attendance boundary planning systems is preferred
  • Experience with GIS software applications
  • Experience with Baragar planning software would be an asset
  • Working knowledge and understanding of computer software packages (i.e. Microsoft Office)
  • Member of Canadian Institute of Planners or Ontario Professional Planners Institute is highly desirable
  • Demonstrated commitment to working in a diverse school community and work environment
  • Valid Ontario driver's license and access to a motor vehicle to travel within the jurisdiction
  • The duties of this position will require the applicant to attend evening meetings on an occasional basis

CASUAL CUSTODIAN 

All applicants applying for the position will be required to be available for day-to-day assignments for the afternoon and the day shift at various locations throughout Essex County and the City of Windsor. These are CUPE 27 Bargaining Unit positions.

Qualifications:

  • An Ontario Secondary School Diploma.
  • Previous cleaning experience within a school or commercial building (asset)
  • Ability to operate equipment and machinery

OCCASIONAL CLERICAL WORKER

  • A minimum of a 2-year community college diploma in Secretarial/Business Administration.

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in a secretarial role.

  • Advanced level of proficiency in utilizing software applications in a Windows environment.

TEMPORARY SUPPORT STAFF

 

The Greater Essex County District School Board invites application packages from persons qualified for the position of Temporary Support Staff.  All successful applicants will be required to be available for day-to-day casual replacement and long-term assignments at various locations throughout Essex County and the City of Windsor. 

Preference will be given to those applicants holding certificates from an accredited college for the successful completion of the following programs: Support Worker – Hearing Impaired, Developmental Service Worker, Child Youth Worker, Early Childhood Educator, as well as other related specialized training and/or certification. A satisfactory Police Clearance is required.

All applicants should possess demonstrable experience and competence in dealing with special needs students in a school or residential setting.

TEMPORARY INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY TECHNICIAN

 

All successful applicants will be required to be available for day-to-day casual replacement and long-term assignments at various locations throughout Essex County and the City of Windsor.

QUALIFICATIONS:                   

  • Successful completion of a Computer/Information Technology program at an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of 3 years work-related experience, of which 1-2 years is in network, software, and troubleshooting, and resolution specific in PC platform.
  • Experience in Mac platform is considered an asset.
  • Good communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to work independently as well as participate as a team member.
  • A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle for travel throughout Essex County is necessary.
  • A satisfactory Police Clearance
     

    DUTIES:
  • Installation and upgrades of various hardware, software and operating system components for the desktop workstations, servers and peripherals.
  • Troubleshooting and maintenance of local area networks.
  • Performance of related administrative tasks, such as daily updating of the call log.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.
