It's Not Easy Being Green, Platinum, Gold…
- 38 GECDSB schools achieve Ontario EcoSchools Certification-

Students and staff of the Greater Essex County District School Board continue to "Do the Right Thing for the Planet" with participation in the Ontario EcoSchools program.

Throughout the 2017-18 school year school Ecoteams, made up of volunteer staff and students, have been reducing their ecological impact and building environmentally responsible school communities.

Their activities have included recycling and waste and energy reduction programs, greening projects and community outreach initiatives.

Thirty-eight GECDSB schools applied for and received provincial certification this year. This includes Anderdon Public School, Dr. David Suzuki Public School, Leamington District Secondary School, Princess Elizabeth Public School and W.F. Herman Academy (secondary) which attained Platinum status.

Nineteen GECDSB schools received Gold certification, 11 Silver and 3 Bronze. (a full list of certified schools and their certification level has been posted at www.publicboard.ca )

Certification is based on a provincial standard of excellence which is used to grade the schools' activities throughout the year. More than 1,900 schools from 58 school boards across Ontario participate in the EcoSchools program.
