RHINOCEROS STAMPEDES INTO WALKERVILLE!
The stage at Walkerville Centre for the Creative Arts will thunder with the hooves of Eugene Ionesco's Rhinoceros, an absurdist comedy being performed May 3-11.
A cast of 17 students transform into beasts in this allegorical play, which sees the human race threatened by a plague of rhinoceritis, which turns average citizens into bellowing, grunting, trumpeting pachyderms. Only one man, the drunken loser Berenger stands in the path of the total loss of humanity. Will he be able to defy the growing herd of monsters?
Rhinoceros features students of the WCCA drama program, who have all worked to create not only their characters, but also the masks they will need to complete their transformations. Theatre Artist, Deb Erb designed the masks and led a full day workshop to teach the cast to create their own rhino heads, using camping mat foam sheets and tissue papier mache.
WCCA grad and current University of Windsor Drama major Jeremy Burke has designed and painted the abstract set. The play is directed by WCCA Program lead Jeff Marontate.
Shows will be held May 3, 4, 5, 9, 10 & 11 at Walkerville Collegiate auditorium. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for seniors & students and will be available at the box office one hour prior to curtain. All performances begin at 7:00 pm, with the exception of the 2:00 pm matinée on May 5. Cash only.
