BLACKNESS AND CANADIAN IDENTITYCONFERENCE

                                                -Promoting Black Excellence-

The Change Your Future Program is pleased to host the third annual, "Blackness and Canadian Identity:  Promoting Black Excellence" Secondary Student Conference on Wednesday, May 1st at St. Clair College,(2000 Talbot Rd. W, Windsor)

This one day Secondary School Student Conference is specifically designed for self-identified racialized students from GECDSB Secondary Schools to explore African/Black Canadian Identity. Student identity, particularly for students of colour, plays a key role in student achievement.   By taking a frank look at issues of identity we can combat and challenge systemic barriers that may be impacting student achievement levels.

It is hoped that through the conference, participating racialized secondary school students will be inspired to see themselves as leaders and key players in solving pressing social issues.  The format will include skill-based workshops, local community keynote speakers, and networking opportunities to empower student participants.

The conference will begin at approximately 9:00 a.m. and conclude at 2:30 p.m.

For further information please contact Rachel Olivero, Equity and Inclusion Officer at 255-3200 ext. 10213.
