Hairstory Project
- investigating the connection between hair and identity -
In recognition of Black History Month, the Change Your Future Program at Walkerville Collegiate Institute will host "Hairstory" – a workshop on black hair and what it means to be black at Walkerville.
It will be held on Wednesday, February 26th in the W.C.I. library from 11:15 a.m. – 2:20 p.m.
Hair can be a conspicuous attribute, particularly for racialized young people. The "Hairstory" workshop was developed out of a desire to see what these students think about their own hair or if they think about it at all. This will be a safe place for students to share personal experiences of Blackness and their Canadian Identity, which, particularly for students of colour, plays a key role in student achievement.
