Summer Learning 2019
- 3 more weeks of school -
The GECDSB Summer Learning Program is designed to positively reinforce math and literacy knowledge which has been acquired during the school year. But it's much more than 3 more weeks of school.
The SLP is primarily for students in the primary grade levels - Camp Wonder / Camp Merveille (F.I.) - but there is also Camp Migizi for students from K-Grade 6 for students who identify as First Nations, Metis or Inuit.
It begins July 2nd and runs through July 19th.
For all students half the days are spent on literacy, numeracy, growth mindset and new this year, Environmental Sustainability. To support the environmental initiative, measures have been taken to reduce the impact of the program through thoughtful purchasing of materials with a focus on reduced packaging to minimize waste.
The second part of each day has students engaged in recreation activities which will take place at the University of Windsor and the Sherk Complex in Leamington.
As always parent / family engagement is a vital aspect of the SLP. On Marvelous Mondays, parents / guardians can visit the camps and participate with the children in the learning. As well, this year, our Board-supported educational program, EDSBY will be used to provide opportunities for students and their families to do things at home that will continue the learning beyond the 3 weeks of camp.
