Going Whole Hog

- master butcher in Community Kitchen -

Jamie Waldron, a GECDSB graduate, who writes about and teaches the art of butchery, will be instructing students at the Community Kitchen (located at the Unemployed Help Centre) on Wednesday, March 29th.

In the morning (9:00 – 11:30 a.m.)Waldron will speak with 20 high school students from Tecumseh Vista Academy and Riverside Secondary School who are exploring opportunities offered by the hospitality technical education class and the OYAP cook trades.

Waldron will demonstrate breaking down an entire hog during the afternoon (12:00 – 2:15 p.m.) for Co-op, Specialist High Skills Major, OYAP cook and hospitality and tourism students. In the days following this class, the pork from these animals will be used to provide meals, prepared by GECDSB Community Kitchen students in collaboration with Plentiful Harvest, for outside agencies in the community.
