- Sandwich Secondary students construct little library -
The Vollmer Centre, in LaSalle has become the latest site of a community-based literacy program called the Little Free Library ( This global program promotes the love of reading and helps build vibrant communities through access to literature.
Sandwich Secondary School students designed, built and decorated the structure, showcasing local talent and encouraging young people to be involved in this literacy program. The Rotary Club of LaSalle Centennial unveiled the newest LFL on Wednesday, February 11th.
Owen Stichhaller, a Grade 11 student, was the chief builder while the decoration was done by students under the guidance of Visual Arts teacher, Sanja Srdanov.
In collaboration with other local Rotary clubs, the LaSalle chapter took on the challenge to expand its Education and Literacy programs by increasing the number of LFL kiosks in the Windsor – Metro Detroit area.
The Little Free Library kiosk is stocked with quality, books donated through Links to Literacy.
The invitation is open to anyone to take, borrow, or even leave a book.
