Herman Student Wins National Competition
- David Garrett best in Canada in precision machining -
 
David Garrett, a grade 12 OYAP student at W.F. Herman Secondary School, was awarded the gold medal in precision machining today at the Skills Canada competition in Moncton, New Brunswick. His project, made using a conventional engine lathe and vertical milling machine, was judged to be the best among the participants from across the country.
 
Skills Canada supports the promotion of skilled trades and technology to students. The annual national competition includes 40 different skills area and attracts more than 500 competitors, who have earned their way in through local, regional and provincial events.
