WCCA Students Help Greet P.M. in Washington
- guests at official welcome ceremony -
A collaboration with Rockridge Secondary School in Ashbury, Virginia created a unique opportunity for 3 students from the Walkerville Centre for the Creative Arts.
Tamara Vujic, Jeremy Burke and Natalie Culmore were among the guests in the White House Rose Garden this morning (Thursday, March 10, 2016) for the official welcome to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on his state visit to the U.S.
The students are part of a senior drama class that has been working with their peers from Virginia, primarily using Skype technology. The Rockridge students recently won an important, state-wide drama festival and were to be received at the White House, in recognition of their achievement. The school’s relationship with the students from Walkerville came to the attention of US government officials, who extended the invitation to attend today’s event in the U.S. capital.
The students were accompanied by Walkerville Collegiate Institute Principal David Garlick and GECDSB Director of Education Erin Kelly. On Wednesday, they were able to meet the students from Rockridge SS in person, on a visit to their school.
