First Nations, Metis and Inuit Symposium
 
The GECDSB is pleased to host the 2016 FNMI Student Symposium on Friday, May 27th at the University of Windsor, Faculty of Education, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.   
 
This symposium aims to promote increased awareness, understanding and appreciation for the rich histories, cultures and perspectives of First Nations, Metis and Inuit peoples.
 
Keynote speaker Dave Jones of the Sault Ste. Marie-based social enterprise Turtle Concepts will empower students to be confident and inspire them to succeed in whatever path they choose. Workshop topics include Residential Schools, Decolonization, Traditional Drumming, Indigenous Art, Finger Weaving. Students will also attend two workshops of their choice that focus on Haudenosaunee, Anishinaabe and Metis teachings and history. 
 
The symposium is open to all GECDSB secondary students taking Native Studies and History courses as well as those secondary school students who identify as First Nations, Inuit and or Métis.
