4 Year Graduation Rate Steadily Improves
The GECDSB is graduating more students than ever before. Over the past 5 years, the GECDSB’s 4 year graduation rate increased steadily by almost 10%.  Most recently, the board’s 4 year graduation rate increased by 1%, rising from 75% in 2013-14 to 76% in the 2014-15 school year.
Over the past three years, Student Success programming has focused on three core priorities: including closing the achievement gap, building resiliency in our students and placing equal value on all pathways. This combined approach to improving student achievement has resulted in steadily increasing graduation rates.
In particular, the School Support Initiative, made up of professional learning teams of teachers and administrators, has provided a better understanding of how students learn best and how evidence-based strategies support student achievement. Teachers are encouraged to monitor students and offer early intervention measures.
Innovative programming through community engagement, Cooperative Education, Specialist High Skills Majors, and Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Programs has provided students with opportunities to connect the skills they learn in the classroom to real world experiences regardless of their pathway of choice.
In addition to increasing graduation rates, Student Success aligns with our strategic priorities to foster confident learners and engaged communities.
