Honouring the Sacrifice
- GECDSB schools commemorate Remembrace Day -

Schools throughout the Greater Essex County District School Board will observe Remembrance Day, Monday, November 11th in a variety of ways.

Some schools will attend their community’s commemoration ceremony at the municipal cenotaph. In Windsor, the GECDSB will be represented by Grade 5 & 6 students from Gordon McGregor and Roseville public schools, as well as the choir from Bellewood Public School.

In many schools assemblies are scheduled for between 9:30 a.m. and noon. These are often organized by students and include veterans from the community as special guests, or speakers.

J.L. Forster Secondary School in Windsor will be commemorating its final day of remembrance. The school is scheduled to close in June 2014 and they will bequeath the school’s bronze memorial plaque, which is dedicated to Forster students who were killed in action during World War 2, to a representative from the Essex-Kent Scottish Regiment.

The 32 names on that plaque will be acknowledged in a video presentation that includes pictures of their final resting places around the world. The ceremony begins at 10:45 a.m.
