Celebrating The Day of the Dead
- Student artwork displayed at Detroit Institute of Arts-

Sandwich Secondary School graduates are having their art work displayed at the Detroit Institute of Arts for the Mexican holiday, Dia de los Muertos  October 25th  – November 3rd.

Sophia Simone, Khalil Parris, Candice McFadden, Josh Murr, Naomi Reaume & Anna-Maria Stavridis all had their work selected to be exhibited by the museum. The sugar skulls were part of a senior class project on Ofrenda Altars.

The Day of the Dead celebrates the passing of family members and loved ones. Altars are made with Ofrendas (“offerings”) which can be sugar skulls, representing the deceased, fresh fruit, marigolds and candles.

During the exhibit guests will be able to write a personal note of remembrance of their loved ones as a way to add to the community altar.
