Grade 8 students from GECDSB schools have been inspired to become leaders in social change during the annual Social Justice Forum held at the University of Windsor. They participated in workshops dealing with Homelessness and Poverty, Removing the Stigma of Mental Illness, the Environment and Lessons Learned from the Holocaust. All the sessions encouraged interaction with the presenters and generated thoughtful discussions of the issues. The students also worked collaboratively on an artistic expression of the need for social change.
The objective of this forum is to empower young people to see themselves as key players in solving some of the issues that impact people everywhere and be involved in shaping the world around them. The students are expected to share their knowledge and initiate projects that foster social justice in their school communities.
The Social Justice Forum is co-sponsored by the Holocaust Education Committee of the Windsor Jewish Federation, UNIFOR Local 200 and the University of Windsor.
