βββThis year, despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, the annual Cereal Box Challenge went ahead as scheduled and students in 6 south Windsor schools still filled 300 large leaf bags with cereal. The proceeds βare being shared among 18 other GECDSB schools.
Nine year old Owen Major (pictured, with his parents) is learning this year through the GECDSB Virtual School, but he's been attending McWilliam PS since Kindergarten. That was when he began supporting the Cereal Box Challenge. Now he's a serial, cereal collector. Ever since he was 4, Owen has asked family members to bring boxes of cereal in lieu of gifts for his birthday. He started out getting 21 that first year. He's expanded his campaign to calling everyone he knows and was able to donate 232. He's been responsible for more than 500 boxes of cereal since he started.
In all, 3 large vans full of cereal were collected by the 6 schools that participated. As well the administrative office of the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario contributed 78 family-sized boxes of cereal.
