Belle River Public School’s new French Immersion program has received a lift from the Raptors at Lakeshore Discovery School.
At the beginning of the 2014-15 school year, BRPS opened a new eight room addition and expanded to include French Immersion as a result of a school boundary study conducted the previous year.
The transition was carefully thought out and resources were allocated to meet the needs of the FI students, but according to Janet Hannigan, Principal of BRPS, “We had no resources for take home reading materials in the French Immersion program.”
Hannigan placed a call to Dustin O’Neil, Principal of LDS and his school community did not disappoint.
A couple days later, Mme. Fischer, Vice Principal of LDS and Mme. Seguin, Vice Principal of BRPS got together for the exchange. Fischer handed over stacks of books and more than $1000 in Scholastic credits for the school to purchase more.
“We want to set up these kids for success- they are all our students,” Fischer said.
“The looks on their faces was priceless,” she added. “They are so happy to know that the people at Lakeshore Discovery still know and care about them.”
