The Terry Fox Foundation has acknowledged the Greater Essex County District School Board’s dedication and involvement in the annual Terry Fox National School Run Day.
Last year, 41 GECDSB schools were among the 4,000 schools in Ontario that took part. To date, GECDSB schools have raised more than $500,000.00 for cancer research in Fox’s name. Canada-wide, donations totaled $6.8 million in 2014.
The 2015 edition of the event will celebrate a milestone - the Marathon of Hope’s 35th anniversary. Terry Fox asked for a dollar from each Canadian, but asked much more from himself. His marathon to raise money and awareness for cancer research pushed him to his limit both mentally and physically.
For this very special anniversary, the Terry Fox Foundation is urging everyone involved in these run days to honour his memory with the same effort.
The Marathon of Hope is a great way for students to learn about Terry Fox, his lasting legacy and our shared Canadian heritage. It is also a chance to promote physical activity and philanthropy within our school communities.
