A CBC national program, in recognition of Black History Month, "Being Black in Canada" features a pair of teachers and a group of students from the Greater Essex County District School Board.
The half-hour documentary begins at W.F. Herman Secondary School, with teacher Stefan Adjetey (pictured, left) and his students discussing their African Studies program and how important it is to them to appreciate the history and the cultural heritage of Black Canadians.
Host Asha Tomlinson also interviewed Westview Freedom Academy teacher Shantelle Browning-Morgan, (pictured, right) who helped develop the curriculum and launch the original GECDSB African Studies course.
"Being Black in Canada" debuted on February 8th. It will be re-broadcast on Saturday, February 14th at 4:30 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 15, and Sunday, Feb. 22nd at 5:00 p.m. on the full CBC Network.
