Each year, in the fall, dozens of Grade 7 students from throughout the Greater Essex County District School Board realize and develop their skills as leaders at a special 2 day Leadership Camp.
During the camp, held annually at Gesstwood, students are engaged in a variety of challenging activities requiring collaboration and many qualities of effective leaders, which they have learned.
Upon returning to their schools, the campers plan, organize and carry out campaigns to raise money for area charities such as Hospice and Ronald McDonald House. This year, at their April follow-up meeting, the young leaders presented cheques totalling more than $36,000, to be split among a number of groups and agencies. Since its inception, Leadership Camp students have contributed well in excess of $300,000 to worthy, local organizations.
