Bullying Prevention and Awareness Week

bullying wordel.jpgNovember 15-21, 2020 has been designated Bullying Prevention and Awareness Week in Ontario.

GECDSB schools are conducting We All Belong campaigns that promote safer, more welcoming learning environments and effect positive change in students achievement and well-being. Projects they have devised are curriculum-based and related to the school's Improvement Plan.

For example, at Essex District High School the Leadership Class has prepared personalized packages for students in Cohort C, who are learning exclusively on-line, at home. The Leadership students felt these students might be feeling isolated or detached from the usual school community.

Students and staff at Prince Edward Public School are decorating rocks with messages of community, connection and belonging which will be placed in the school's outdoor garden.

All schools have been provided with copies of the book, "The Day You Begin" by Jacqueline Woodson to explore the themes of identity, culture, similarities and feeling different.

While the designated week is merely 6 days, it is intended that the activities and attitudes will retain a place in each school community throughout the school year.
