Walkerville Collegiate Institute will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2022. and Clair Fisher (pictured, left) has been around since it opened. The Class of 1939 grad observed his 100th birthday on October 11th and enjoyed the occasion with a group of current students and staff from WCI.
Fisher's daughter, Barbara contacted the school with hopes of having them send a card, but typical of today's WCI, which includes the Walkerville Centre for the Creative Arts, the 2020 Tartans staged a much more dramatic presentation for Mr. Fisher and his family.
A couple days prior to the Fisher centenary, students and staff joined Clair and his family on Microsoft Teams for a rousing rendition of Happy Birthday. As well, using some music found in the school library by teacher Sarah Preney, students sang the original school song, accompanied by an original dance routine.
Mr. Fisher provided the ultimate compliment for the performers saying that it was "really professional".
The school sent Clair and his family Walkerville tee-shirts in the same colour blue that he wore playing basketball and running track for the school 81 years ago. He promised to wear it in good health for many more years to come.
