LaSalle Public School Kindergarten teacher Deanna McLennan (pictured, left) has been awarded a 2020 Prime Minister's Award for Teaching Excellence in STEM.
The PMAs have been presented since 1994. The STEM awards honour teachers that "help develop the culture of innovation Canada needs today, and in the future."
Deanna is cited, in her award, as a "social media-savvy teacher" who "gets her Kindergarteners to follow up on their questions and solve problems as soon as they arise. They invented and tested fruit-fly traps to respond to a classroom infestation and built a barrier to protect a duck's nest they found in the schoolyard. She shares what she knows about working with young learners with thousands of other educators via Facebook, Twitter and her blog."
