SLP 2018

โ€‹SLP 2018 - Dougall kids doing math.jpgNumeracy, literacy and fun continued to be the staples of the GECDSB's Summer Learning Program, Camp Wonder, but there was also robotics, bridge building and basketball to engage and entertain the students who had opted to extend their school year by three weeks.  The campers spent their mornings in academic programs and the afternoons they went to the University of Windsor or St. Clair College for gym and swim activities.

Camp Wonder is primarily for students who have just completed Grade 2 but in July there was also a pilot program for K-1 students focused on outdoor learning.  There was a basketball camp at General Brock PS for junior girls led by former SLP 2018 - Brock basketball.jpgUniversity of Windsor Lancers captain Caitlyn Longmuir.  Students at the Brock, Marlborough and West Gate sites conducted bridge inquiries, inspired by the Gordie Howe bridge project which will soon dominate their neighbourhoods.  FNMI students attended a culturally-connected camp at John Campbell PS and there was a French Immersion program at Bellewood PS.

In all there were approximately 850 youngsters in 36 classes at 23 different sites throughout the GECDSB, including Queen Elizabeth PS and M.D. Bennie PS in Leamington and Essex PS.  The camps were led by 80 qualified teachers and staff members.

Camp Wonder got underway on July 3rd and runs until Friday, July 20th.
