The GECDSB at the Canada-wide Science Fair

GECDSB Students at National Science Fair.jpegFive GECDSB students are in Ottawa along with 500 other young scientists for the 2018 Canada-wide Science Fair​ (May 12-19). They will measure their own ideas and creations against all the other champions from regional science fairs held across the country. More than 25,000 young people compete nationally for the right to attend the CWSF.

Brent Charron, a Grade 10 students from Vincent Massey HS, is in the intermediate Information division with his project, "Conformable LEECs using Elastomeric Emissive Materials".

"Exploring Artifical Intennigence via Reinforcement" is the entry from Lily Ni in the junior Information division. Lily attends Talbot Trail Public School.

Another Massey student, Ahmad Ali, who is in Grade 11, will represent this region in the senior Innovation division with his project, "​SignSMART: Glove Translates ASL Fingerspelling into Text and Speech" . The team of Shawn Tanner and Mahnoz Akhtari from Walkerville Collegiate Institute are in the senior Environment division with their entry, "Using Zebra Mussels as a Water Filtration Substrate"

There are hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarships at stake in the competition as well as research and development opportunities for the participants.
