Three GECDSB schools: Hugh Beaton Public School, Queen Victoria Public School and Prince Edward Public School have been recognized by the City of Windsor with Built Heritage Awards. This honour acknowledges "excellence in long-time heritage stewardship and/or recent well-done conservation work" (City of Windsor Website)
The school board has been able to utilize increased levels of renewal funding over the past 3 years to complete some much-needed work on these 3 schools, which are all approaching their 100th anniversaries. Prince Edward PS was opened in 1921, Queen Victoria in 1922 and Hugh Beaton in 1929.
With the professional support of J.P. Thompson Architects work was undertaken last year to upgrade areas of each school and restore prominent features, such as the front entrance of Hugh Beaton.
