It was a record breaking year for the Cereal Box Challenge.
Sharp Busline buses picked up 3,192,371 grams of breakfast cereal collected by 6 Windsor school communities. They dropped it off at 32 school breakfast programs in the area as well as the regional Children's Centre, Maryvale, New Beginnings and the Windsor Welcome Centre shelter. Four hundred large leaf bags filled with boxes of cereal were delivered.
This year's collection exceeded last year's by 450,000 grams and it's more than a million grams greater than in 2015. The schools taking part in this annual food drive were: Talbot Trail, Glenwood, Bellewood, Southwood, Central and McWilliam public schools. The challenge and the Cereal Box Trophy was captured by the Central Crusaders with an average of 1,520 grams per student.
Incentive prizes for the winning school and classes were donated by Mad Science.
