Imagine getting everything you needed, just by asking. Thanks to the benevolence and the understanding of the Windsor Goodfellows, GECDSB students will have access to an emergency supply of hygiene products at every school in the board.
A survey of schools found that the most pressing need to support students on a daily basis was deodorant, sanitary napkins and tampons. When this information was communicated to the Goodfellows, they were eager and able to help. The week before school started packages were prepared and sent out to all 70 schools with supplies for the first semester.
In all, the Goodfellows supplied 1875 deodorant sticks, 7500 tampons and 3100 sanitary napkins. A second installment will be delivered in January. Superintendent Sharon Pyke, who coordinated the donation for the GECDSB says she's "honoured" by the generosity demonstrated by the Goodfellows. Dr. Pyke told them what was needed and how much and they came through with everything. "Their understanding of the need and the immediate and significant response was incredible," she said.
The Goodfellows have been a valued, long-time partner with the board supporting our students and families through their food bank as well as assisting breakfast programs and with the donations of shoes and boots.
