The Windsor Goodfellows has been as good a community partner to the Greater Essex County District School Board as we have ever known. Year after year they support our students and their families with food, shoes and personal hygiene products and they are always open to new ideas or ways they can help.
So when the annual paper drive, the Goodfellows' major fundraising effort, had to be reimagined this year because of the Coronovirus pandemic, the staff and students of the GECDSB found a way to contribute.
In the spirit of the Goodfellows' traditional practice, we stuffed envelopes with what we had, - loose change, even a few pennies, loonies, twooines and in many cases bills - in lieu of rolling down the car window at a street corner. The final total was almost $5,000, with another $700 coming from the adminsitrative office's social committee which staged a rousing Family Feud tournament in December.
When Superintendent Sharon Pyke stopped by to hand over the collection (pictured, above/left with board members Brenda Noiles and Art Reid) there was talk about what the Goodfellows would be doing in 2021 for the students and families of the GECDSB.
