On Monday. January 3rd Premier Doug Ford announced that Ontario schools will operate exclusively on-line beginning on Wednesday, January 5th.
There will still be no classes for any GECDSB students on Tuesday, January 4th.
Mr. Ford stated that the purpose of this action is to reduce contacts and mobility in communities, diminishing the potential spread of the COVID-19 Omicron variant. This also provides additional time for students and staff to receive necessary vaccinations before in-person learning resumes.
Students registered for in-person learning will join their teachers in an on-line format at their regularly scheduled times on Wednesday.
Students in the GECDSB Virtual schools will also resume as planned on January 5th.
Families of students with special needs - those currently registered for in-person learning in either GAINS or STEPS programs - will be contacted for further consultation.
Any GECDSB students with technology needs or inquiries should contact their schools.
The government is providing school boards with N-95 masks for staff members who elect to use this grade of safety equipment when in-person learning resumes. These have been ordered, and are expected to arrive by this Thursday.
Everyone is urged to continue observing necessary precautions - masking, safe physical distancing and completing vaccination regimens (including the booster, if permitted at this time).
