Doug Doey, the Department Head for Technical Education at Kingsville District High School has been given the Excellence in Teaching Award by the Ontario Council for Technical Education.
The council presents this honour annually to a secondary teacher "who demonstrates an outstanding commitment to present the technology component of the Science and Technology curriculum and who is dedicated to the promotion of Technological Education.".
Mr. Doey received his award (pictured, right with OCTE Board Members GECDSB Trustee Cheryl Lovell and GECDSB Teacher-consultant Bill Fetter) during the annual KDHS Car Show, an event he organizes which, not only demonstrates the skills of students and highlights the automotive history of the region, but supports the Kingsville Food Bank.
Part of the criteria for this award is a "commitment to teaching and promoting technology through the delivery of a creative and engaging program" and without question Mr. Doey meets that standard in the KDHS Techzone. The GECDSB recognized his effort and achievements in 2017 with its Outstanding Service Award.
