Massey Hacks is Canada's largest 24 hour, high school hackathon. A hackathon is an event where computer programmers, in this case students from Ontario and Michigan, are invited to work collaboratively on software design projects.
Massey Hacks 5 will be held at Vincent Massey Secondary School on March 23-24th with approximately 250 students coding and creating for a full day. There's no overall theme for this year's event...it's open to any type of concept or idea. Prizes will be awarded to individuals or teams of up to 4 in categories: Best Hack that Connects Communities to the Value of Water; Best Game; Best Hardware Hack; Best Use of Google Cloud Platform; and Best IoT Hack Using a Qualcomm Device.
During the hackathon, participants will be able to expand their horizons and improve their skills at a number of workshops in: Python; Machine Learning; Front End Web Development; 3D Printing and Modelling; Firebase; and GitHub. There will also be a variety of entertaining distractions including yoga, cup stacking and karaoke. It's free to register and it's open to students Grades 9-12, but any Grades 5-8 students will also be considered.
