National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

National Day of Truth and Reconciliation Day logo.jpgGECDSB students, staff and school communities observed the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Sept. 30th with commemorations and activities to honour lost children and survivors of Canada's residential school system.

We wore orange to recognize the intergenerational harm caused to Indigenous families and communities and to honour those affected by the injustice of the residential schools program.

Activities ranged from reading, viewing videos and listening to recordings of survivors and their families. Students also created visual representations of the meaningful day to remind everyone - in the school and their neighbourhoods - of the need to reflect, listen and learn.
