Based on the theorem that increasing the mathematical expertise of all educators in our system will have a proportional impact on student success, the GECDSB Math Strategy Team has started delivering a series of workshops.
The first order of business was to work with all the teaching consultants, followed by the first of 7 sessions with school administrators. The remainder will be held over the course of the school year. However, that is just a fraction of the training that will go on over the next 9 months.
Elementary teachers spent a portion of their first Professional Activity day of the year in a math workshop with their principals. (pictures above and right). This training plan is intended to have exponential growth as the Board, administration and teaching staff work on adding to their understanding and comfort with math. This should make a difference in the achievement of all students.
