Tecumseh Vista Academy held a party to celebrate its 5th birthday!
The GECDSB's first K-12 school opened in 2010 and has, as Chair of the Board Connie Buckler remarked, "created and fostered a strong sense of community in only 5 short years." Mrs. Buckler told the assembly of students, staff, parents and special guests, "It's amazing, when you think of it...the strong sense of togetherness here, our incredible school spirit and the way we have reached out and supported the whole community. It's like Tecumseh Vista Academy has always been here."
Former Superintendent of Education Jeff Hillman said, from the beginning, Vista has been about "potential and possibilities" for students and continues to hold to that philosophy.
Like any good birthday party, there was lots of singing, including the school song, sung by the entire student body and Happy Birthday in both official languages. There was also dancing, skits and performances by both staff and students.
A $10 million expansion has recently been completed to accommodate all the high school students and programs and the school continues to grow.
