The Minister of Education has asked all school boards to prepare for three possible reopening scenarios in September:

1. A return to conventional, regular classroom instruction, with health and safety requirements (full-time at school);

2. An adapted delivery model that enables students to return to class with blended virtual learning, that includes health and safety requirements that will limit the maximum number of students to 15 per class. (A blend of at home and at school learning – e.g. alternate days).

3. A continuation of remote learning, including the use of live, synchronous online instruction (full-time at home).

The Minister has indicated that an adapted delivery model (modified school day routine with smaller classes and an alternating day schedule) will likely be the way students return to school in September. Final decisions about school reopening will be made later in the summer, based on the most up-to-date COVID-19 parameters and the direction of the Minister of Education and provincial and local health experts.

We invite your input to this planning - through a survey at the bottom of the page - as we continue to develop our GECDSB Reopening Strategy and COVID-19 Safety Plans. Our safety planning is done in partnership with the Windsor Essex County Health Unit and under the direction of our provincial Ministries of Education and Health. Our number one priority is the safety of our students, staff and families. The guiding principles of our school reopening planning include:

  • Addressing safety concerns for our students, staff and families – mitigating risks;
  • Maximizing student-teacher (face-to-face) learning opportunities;
  • Planning for an effective transition to Regular Classroom Instruction (full time schooling) or Remote Learning (at-home) models as may be necessary;
  • Providing consistency, when possible, for students and families in scheduling;
  • Guiding our planning by the ‘COVID-19: Recommendations for School Reopening’ (Sick Kids - June 2020) and the Ministry of Education’s ‘Approach to Reopening Schools for the 2020-2021 School Year’ documents.
We value your input in this planning and encourage you to complete a brief survey to share your thoughts. You may complete the survey once for each child attending a GECDSB school. The survey will be available from June 29 to July 8, 2020.
If you have any questions about how to complete this survey or would like to complete it in a different language, please contact beth.silverio@publicboard.ca.
Thank you for sharing your input with us.
