Pirates, knights (both dark and medievil) a unicorn, a teddy bear, ghosts, clowns and at least one banana were parading through the streets of Riverside during Riverside Secondary School's 17th annual Halloween Fun Run on Friday, October 27th.
Most of the staff and the majority of students took part in the day's events in one way or another. The festivities included a fun fair, a barbeque and haunted house tours in the redecorated (yet always spooky) basement wrestling room. Everything is planned and staged by the Grade 12 Leadership Class, who spend weeks organizing activities, getting donations and encouraging fellow students to participate.
The purpose of the Fun Run, besides enjoying the traditional autumnal festival, is to support a community organization. Each student must raise or contribute at least $10 to take part. This year, once again, the recipient of all proceeds was the Kidney Foundation, which received a check from students for $5,000. Over the past decade Riverside's school community has contributed approximately $50 thousand dollars to charity.
