Sandwich Sabre grad, Kylie Masse (Class of 2014) has earned a silver medal in the 100m backstroke at the Tokyo Olympics. It's the second trip to the Olympic medal podium for the 25 year old from LaSalle. She took bronze in the same event at the 2016 games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Masse has always maintained her strong connection with the Sandwich Sabre community, visiting students following her initial Olympic success to show off her medal (pictures).
She is a 2-time world champion in the 100 metre backstroke but in Tokyo, finished just less than 3 tenths of a second behind a swimmer from Australia. The Covid-19 pandemic certainly impacted her training, but she demonstrated great imagination, according to a Postmedia story (Click this link for full article) Kylie hooked a harness to the fence and worked out in her family's backyard pool in LaSalle leading up to her trip to Tokyo.
Masse will have another chance for a medal in Japan. She'll swim in the 200 metre backstroke.
