Student Leadership Conference

Iman Berry and Layla Bakaa.jpgThe GECDSB Student Senate hosted a spirited group of 235 students at its 9th annual Student Leadership Conference at the Ciociaro Club in Tecumseh. Student councils, leadership classes, emerging leaders and representatives from extracurricular teams and clubs from the Board's high schools learned about finding and using their voices to improve everyone's expereince at the day-long event.

Student Trustees Layla Bakaa and Iman Berry (pictured, left) focused the energy in the room on the themes of leadership, engagement and school spirit. The Keynote Speaker for the day was Tita Kyrtsakas, the writer and editor of Feminist Space Camp Magazine who is also a Bachelor of Education Candidate at the University of Windsor, doing her practicum at Tecumseh Vista Academy. She spoke, from experience, about folloiwing your passiions and re-routing your pathway to create your own opportunities.

students in circle do cheer.jpegFor the remainder of the day, students rotated through a series of activities and scenarios designed to allow all students to voice their opinions, listen to others and generate ideas for students engagement.

Among the most popular workshops was the School Cheer exercise, which elicited some very loud and clear student voice.​
