The Greater Essex County District School Board has made a committment, elaborated in our Mental Health Well-being Strategic Plan, to continue the conversation around positive mental health, to reduce the stigma of mental illness and to move each student toward achieving well-being.
In association with the Candian Mental Health Association and a network of community organizations, a Youth Mental health Summit was held this month for more than 200 students from our high schools.
Students listened to a variety of guest speakers, attended workshops and took part in exercises intended to inspire them to become leaders in their school communities. This year, each school is being asked to create its own mental health well-being group and the students who attended the summit have been given the responsibility of being positive student ambassadors in their communities.
One of the fundamental aspects of this year's Mental Health Well-being Strategy is sleep hygiene, with the goal of promoting behaviours and life styles which lead to better quality sleep.
