The Greater Essex County District School Board has made a committment, elaborated in our Mental Health Well-being Strategic Plan, to continue the conversation around positive mental health, to reduce the stigma of mental illness and to move each student toward achieving well-being.
In association with the Candian Mental Health Association and a network of community organizations, a Youth Mental Health Summit was held in November for more than 200 students from our high schools.
Students listened to a variety of guest speakers, attended workshops and took part in exercises intended to inspire them to become leaders in their school communities. For the 2017-18 school year, each school was asked to create its own mental health well-being group and the students who attended the summit were given the responsibility of being positive student ambassadors in their communities.
One of the fundamental aspects of this year's Mental Health Well-being Strategy was sleep hygiene, with the goal of promoting behaviours and life styles which lead to better quality sleep.
