Staff, students and administration welcomed the community into the new Leamington District Secondary School for a tour and a taste of what's been happening since the building officially opened on the first day of school in September.
A group of staff, community partners and various contributors to the completion of the $32 million project were thanked at a private gathering. "There aren't many more rewarding experiences, for a Director of Education, than to preside over the opening of a new school," GECDSB Director of Education Erin Kelly (pictured, right) stated. "It's so satisfying because the end result is the culmination of so much hard work, creative thinking and collaboration by our staff, the school community and the professionals we trust to turn great ideas into reality."
Now that everything is organized and in place - including the bleachers in the gym, which hold close to 1,000 people - it was time to show it all off during an Open House. Hundreds accepted the invitation and spent an evening checking out the classrooms, labs, shops and the work of students in the LDSS culinary program. Snacks, prepared in the school's professional restaurant-quality kitchen were provided throughout the school for the guests.
