A group of pennant waving students backed up representatives from the Greater Essex County District School Board, Nature Fresh Farms and the municipality of Leamington as ground was broken on an ambitious idea at Leamington District Secondary School.
The new school's outdoor athletic facility will be known as Nature Fresh Field and the drive to develop the project is coming from the community. Nature Fresh Farms has made a significant committment of at least $250,000 and President Peter Quiring has his foot on the gas to solicit support from the community to complete the grand design. That includes a soccer/football field, 8 lane rubberized track , lights, a large grandstand and field house.
The campaign is being called Operation Flagpole and you can follow the progress at www.naturefreshfield.ca.
The project will be completed in 6 phases. The first 2 have been guaranteed by Nature Fresh Farms to provide a grass field with an asphalt track by August 2020. The remainder of the phases will be done depending on contributions from the community. The Greater Essex County District School Board has provided $250,000 to the project, which is the investment that would have been made for the basic sports field that was included in the design of the new school.
