Ms. Kelly. along with Trustees, Senior Administration, LDSS students and staff helped initiate construction of the $32 million project on Oak St., just below the Sherk Recreation Complex.
"Many generations of Leamington families have been well served by Leamington District Secondary School over on Talbot Street, but a new address will not change that." said Leamington/Pelee Island Trustee Dave Taves.
Grade 9 student Layla Bakaa will be able to graduate from the new LDSS, "Although we leave behind the building, we do not leave behind these memories and accomplishments. The spirit of LDSS will carry on in hearts of its many students and staff."
Site preparation with heavy machinery had already begun while the ground-breaking took place. Rosati Construction is the general contractor. Completion is scheduled for the summer of 2017 with the new school opening that September.
