In 2012 the Greater Essex County District School Board conducted a Program and Accommodation Review of the W.F. Herman Family of Schools (Herman SS, David Maxwell PS, Coronation PS, Davis PS, Roseville PS, Gordon McGregor PS, & McCallum PS) to consider ideas for relieving enrolment pressure at McCallum and reducing the overall number of surplus student spaces throughout the GECDSB.
One approved resolution by the Board of Trustees was, pending approval and funding from the Ministry of Education, to transition students from Percy P. McCallum PS to W.F. Herman Secondary School, to create a JK-12 school.
In 2014 the Ministry approved the Board's proposal and granted $10.6 million for the job. Work was laid out in 3 phases to create and elementary wings, including new kindergarten classrooms, build new offices and staff area and construct a new elementary gymnasium. It began in 2015 and will be complete in October 2016
