Computers now play a big role in our lives and, more and more, the lives of Kindergarten aged children. There are many advantages to letting young children use computers. Computer skills are important to learn and many internet sites are very educational. There are some pitfalls as well. The internet can be a dangerous place with inappropriate material and advertising. Your child's teacher can suggest sites which are appropriate.
Parents need to monitor their child's computer use. Sit down with your child and see what they're doing on the computer. Make sure that the computer is in an area which you can keep an eye on. Most importantly, limit the time the child spends on the computer. Around twenty minutes is good for a Kindergarten child. Remember – no matter how engaging the computer can be, it is no substitute for parental involvement.
